DOLL/GIRL
Book & Lyrics by Joseph W. Ritsch
Part synth-pop concert, part living puppet show, part fever dream, DOLL/GIRL tells the story of Greer Lankton, a trans visual artist who created evocative and haunting soft sculptured dolls that represented members of her community, as well as autobiographical elements of her identity and experiences.
Doll/Girl show description update: Greer is the central figure in the musical with a chorus of three of Greer’s most iconic dolls: Candy Darling, Sissy, and Jesus/Mary — portrayed by an ensemble of trans, queer, and gender non-conforming actors.
PRODUCTION HISTORY
From January to November of 2023, the concept album for DOLL/GIRL was written. In June of 2023, we received a grant from SongByrd Demos and recorded "Unsung Love Song" with Murphy Taylor Smith and myself at Subway Studios in NYC. In November of 2023, Joseph Ritsch and I worked as artists in residency for Judson Memorial Church’s Judson Arts program. This residency also included the first public presentation of Doll/Girl. The show will be featured as Joe’s Pub on April 15, 2024.
DOLL/GIRL is currently seeking funding for future development, including our 2024 Joe's Pub Concert. Click HERE to donate today!
